Real estate funds ("Funds") are the principal instrument for investing indirectly in Italy's real estate market; the principal goal is to invest at least two-thirds of the fund's assets in property, corporeal rights and interests in real estate companies.
After Law 84 of 1994 allowed their introduction into Italy, the first Funds were launched at the end of the 1990s. Only after the introduction of private-contribution Funds and the tax changes contained in Law 410 of 2001 did this sector really take off.
